In this painting I explore the quiet duality of those who hold the world together – not because they are unaffected, but because they have chosen, again and again, to absorb rather than unleash.
There is a particular grief and frustration that belongs to those who love a country that continues to be captured through corruption. And yet something in these people refuses to become what has been done to them. In the shadow lives what cannot be shown: the internal pulling and silent unraveling of being perpetually steady while others are permitted the luxury of falling apart.
